Like most people who end up in this field, I did not get here by accident. I have seen addiction fracture my family, worked my way back from a near-fatal injury, and sat with the hard lessons of complicated relationships that showed me where I needed to grow. I know what it is like to feel blindsided by life, to keep functioning on the outside while things feel pretty chaotic inside, and to wonder if anything will actually change.

My name is Carter Hasbrook, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, who specializes in trauma, anxiety, and relationships. I grew up in Vermont, went to undergrad in Florida, and eventually followed my heart's pull toward psychology that brought me to California for grad school. I fell in love with the work and the ocean and never wanted to leave. At present, when I’m not in the office, I’m usually playing guitar, hacking my way around the golf course, walking my dog Tobi, or checking out new restaurants around Orange County with my wife.

In therapy, I am straightforward, warm, and collaborative. I use approaches like EMDR, IFS, and somatic work, but what you will probably notice most is that I listen closely, trying to understand to the fullest, and I will be honest with you in a respectful way. I approach therapy as a real relationship, not a polite performance. I encourage my clients to be direct with me and let me know if something I say does not land, feels off, or misses what they are trying to express.
